Whose Improv Is It Anyway? : On-The-Spot Satire
Game Description : Newsflash
Game Title : Newsflash
Game Category : Prop
Number Of People : 3 (3 actors)
Difficulty Rating : **** (Hard - Props, Deciphering)
Time Estimate : 3 minutes
Items Necessary : Television (1), Antenna/Cable Connection (1) or Blu-Ray/DVD Player/VCR and a video to show (1)
Prompts Needed : None
Preparation :
- Before you begin, you must have a television set up, muted, with a clear connection to a broadcast. A VCR with pre-selected footage is preferrable. One of the actors portrays a news reporter out in the field, while the other two are back in the studio. The field reporter must stand with his back to the television, and should not be aware of what is on the tape (note: remove their glasses if any because they might see the TV's reflection).
Procedure(s) :
- Once you begin the game, the reporters in the studio must give subtle hints to the field reporter in order to help the field reporter guess what is going on behind him.
Closure :
- The game is completed either when the field reporter correctly guesses what is/was going on behind them, when they give up trying, or when time runs out.
Variations :
- Some of the best material for this type of game includes footage of popular television series or movies (if it is obscure, the field reporter may have no chance), news footage, stock footage, or video of friends/family.
